The Polish Mountain Guides Association (PSPW) is an organisation for Polish guides trained based on a special, unified international standard for mountain guides, i.e. UIAGM/IVBV/IFMGA.
IVBV/UIAGM/IFMGA are German, French and English abbreviations of the International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations. All UIAGM/IVBV/IFMGA guides undergo the same training, have similar competencies and wear the same badges, which are issued and recognised virtually all over the world – from South America, through Canada and the United States to Asia countries. PSPW is the only Polish organisation affiliated with UIAGM/IVBV/IFMGA.
Why choose an IVBV/UIAGM/IFMGA guide?
We like the mountains and we like people – these are the two pillars of being a guide. Add to this the highest possible technical qualifications and we are ready to take you to the world’s highest mountains and back. Your mountain destinations and satisfaction are our challenges. Climb with us!
Contact details of active guides from PSPW can be found in the „ZNAJDŹ PRZEWODNIKA” tab.
What do we do?
Together with our guests, we climb, reach the famous or little known peaks of the Tatra Mountains or the Alps, and guide tours in exotic mountains. We run ski tours and avalanche training courses, we ski off-piste with our clients, and we climb icefalls. We take care of the safety of our guests, provide technical equipment (harnesses, helmets, ropes, avalanche gear) and we rent other necessary equipment if needed. We also train people who want to operate in the mountains on their own and conduct training courses enabling them to apply for the international guide license.
This website provides more information about mountain guiding, a list of active guides, their contact details, and information about PSPW and its history.
Established in 1996, The Polish Mountain Guides Association (PSPW) was accepted as a candidate for UIAGM/IVBV/IFMGA on the 5th of October 1996 in Zermatt. The first members of PSPW received the UIAGM/IVBV/IFMGA certificate on the 25th of November 2000 in Chambery.
In continuation of the tradition, especially the Polish tradition of mountain guiding, we have chosen Stanisław Motyka (1906–1941), an outstanding climber and guide in the 1930s, as our mountain patron. He was a prominent figure in our mountain circles. He was the author of more than 50 new climbing routes, which to this day set quality standards on both sides of Tatra Mountains. The beauty and boldness of his projects have earned him the nickname „the aesthete of the rock”. He was also the first Tatra guide not born in the mountains. He was taking clients to the most difficult walls, he is the most distinguished representative and pioneer of mountain guiding in Poland.
